HELLO & WELCOME!
I’m Toni from Dandelion Doula and I’m here to support, educate and empower you through every step of your prenatal, labour, delivery and postpartum journey.
Toni’s goal is to…
Educate and Empower expecting parents to feel confident and supported plus help families to have a positive labour experience.
ABOUT ME!
Hi, I’m Toni Medcalf, a mum of four, currently living on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
As a Student Doula with the Doula Training Academy, my journey began with my own challenging experiences as a mother. I’m a proud mum of four girls in a blended family, and they have shaped me into the caring, patient, and supportive person I am today. Unfortunately, my own births were far from ideal—I felt unsupported and uninformed, which left me scared and disempowered. These experiences drive my passion to educate and support other women, ensuring they feel empowered and in control of their birthing journey.

A doula, derived from ancient Greek meaning "woman's servant," is a professional birth coach who provides physical, emotional, and informational support during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods. While they don't offer medical care, doulas assist with physical comfort, emotional encouragement, and advocacy, ensuring that a mother's preferences are supported and her voice is heard throughout the birthing process.
-
Using a Doula has been shown to reduce medical intervention greatly during childbirth. A Doula is there not only to support you through your birth journey but also your family. They have learnt a huge amount of non medical pain management techniques including massage , positioning and breathing techniques. Most importantly they educate you and your partner and are there to advocate for you in your most vulnerable time during labour and the postpartum period.
-
A doula does not replace the role of your partner, but should rather complement or enhance the experience! Having another support person with you allows for your partner to take breaks when needed but for the birthing mama to continue to feel supported. Having a doula will also let the partner enjoy the experience more as they don’t have to remember everything from their birthing classes taken months ago.
